September 17–18, 2005
Glenview,
IL – June 28, 2005 – The California
Urological Association has endorsed the American Academy of Pain
Medicine’s second offering of a pain course designed for primary
care physicians. “Essentials of Pain Medicine: What You
need to Know at the Front Line of Medicine” provides
an integrative approach to the management of pain. Over 300 physicians
attended the course when it was first offered in February 2005 in
Palm Springs, describing it as “excellent conference”
with an “excellent breadth of lectures” and “great
speakers.”
Clinically
focused lectures and case presentations will feature approaches
to the assessment, diagnosis, referral, and treatment of patients
with complex pain. Integrative approaches, including psychological
assessment, interventional approaches, and pharmacotherapy, will
be discussed. The course will include a review of the neurobiology
of pain and a discussion of pain at the end of life. Regulatory
issues that have an impact on pain management will also be covered.
The course will fulfill the California AB487 requirement for 12
hours of CME in pain management and end-of-life care. Application
for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family
Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
Members
of the California Urological Association are eligible for a discounted
registration rate. To view the full brochure or to
register for the course, contact the American Academy of Pain Medicine
