Our Mission
The California Urological Association is a political and socioeconomic organization whose purpose is to actively represent and integrate urologists into the current healthcare delivery system by means of communication and representation to similar organizations and to maintain the highest quality of urologic care.

CUA Profile

 
 

The CUA was founded and incorporated in 1986. The total membership is currently 475, representing approximately 52% of the State's board certified urologists. The membership of the CUA consists of urologists practicing in California who support the objectives and purposes of the Association.

The major objectives and purposes of the CUA shall be to preserve and protect present and future Urological care for the people of California by addressing the following socioeconomic issues:

  • Quality of care
  • Access to care
  • Medical progress, development, implementation and economic support
    of new technology

In addition, the association may address any issue not specifically listed which is of importance to the membership. No part of any income shall ever inure to the benefit of any private member or individual.

CUA WORKING ON YOUR BEHALF

Currently, the CUA is working on:
Revoking the mandate of regulatory issues for continuing education credits for California Radiography and Fluroscopy X-ray Supervisor and operation permits
Proposing a change in law that currently prevents medical assistants from performing urethral catheterization in the medical office

CUA is aggressively active in the areas listed below:
CUA seat on CMA Council on Legislation
Supported state laws to allow private law suits over unfair and unreasonable managed care contracts
On a state level, CUA acts as a back-up advocate for urologists subject to unfair peer review by the Medical Board.
Your CUA Hotline Calls/Issues – CUA pursues payment for inadequate Medicare reimbursements, and provides assistance on charges, payments, coding and policy issues.
Maintains to establish a working relationship with the CMA President and regional medical directors.

Lupron, Vidadur CaP, Cryosurgery for CaP
TRUS, guidance u/s and biopsy as separate billable procedures

Compliance with CERT (Comprehensive Error Rate Testing) for record documentation
Continual changes in AWP (Average Wholesale Price) pricing structure
OIG & FBI office investigations and guidelines for urologists
Prostate Cancer budgetary cuts in California
New HIPAA Regulations altering office practices

CUA provides urologists with representation – state & national levels
